The name Ristretto goes back to the Italian verb ridurre (Italian: reduce), because it is a reduced, approximately half espresso. The color palette of Ewa Mróz's painting is similarly reduced, giving it a somewhat metaphysical touch. The bright elements create an amazing play of light, giving the work a three-dimensionality and giving the impression that somewhere in the depths of the painting the sun is setting, shrouded in fog.
